Trauma informed care is an approach that recognizes the ways that stress and trauma impact each and every one of us. On an organizational level, trauma informed care helps to change the workplace culture to appropriately respect and respond to stress at all levels. This can include teaching people about how our brains and bodies respond to stress, how to respond effectively in tense situations versus reacting solely based on emotions and understanding the wide-spread nature of trauma.
Without awareness of the impacts of stress and trauma, we may inadvertently contribute to re-traumatization and greater disorganization within our agencies. By utilizing a trauma informed care approach in your organization, you can develop practices and policies that reduce the possibility of re-traumatization, improve employee wellbeing and contribute to a better operating organization.
